Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Find Time Improvements During Friday Action in Aragon

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins kicked off the Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon and made significant time improvements in the Practice compared to FP1. The teammates completed the afternoon session in P14 and P16 respectively.

After a two-week break, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team got straight back to work on a perfectly sunny Friday at the MotorLand Aragón. Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins finished the Practice in 14th and 16th place respectively. They will both take part in tomorrow's Q1 session.

Quartararo completed FP1 in P10, and while the afternoon Practice proved a challenge, he did find a time improvement of 2.022s. The Frenchman saved his best for last. The 1'46.618s he set on lap 21/21 put him in P14 in the timesheets.

Rins had finished FP1 in 12th place. The Spaniard views Aragon as a home GP and was riding with a special helmet designed by children from a local school. The number 42 was keen to better his time in the afternoon. He set a 1'46.704s in the Practice session on lap 17/18, finding a 2.101s margin. It had him rank 16th in the classifications.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team will be back in action tomorrow for the Saturday MotoGP sessions: FP2 will be held from 10:10-10:40 (GMT+2), followed by the qualifying sessions from 10:50-11:30, and the 11-lap Sprint will start at 15:00.

"I expected to be struggling at this track, so it wasn't a surprise that today was challenging. I couldn't ride like I wanted to. Tomorrow will be difficult, but we might be in a better position than we were today because we now know the potential of our bike. So, we will try our best and try to gain a bit of pace and improve the consistency. I prefer to keep the same base set-up and try to adapt to the situation."

"It was tough. I expected this GP to be difficult, but we are far from where we want to be. Let's see how this weekend develops. We tried many things, like we have been doing also at previous GPs. We need to keep analysing and we need to find the underlying cause."
