Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins had a solid ride in today's Michelin Grand Prix of Aragon Sprint – his home round – making strides from a P19 starting position to P12 at the chequered flag. Quartararo was unlucky to have a technical issue end his Sprint endeavours on lap 5.
Rins rode from P19 on the starting grid to P16 on the opening lap. An overtake on Brad Binder and a crash by Fabio Di Giannantonio had the Yamaha rider move up to fourteenth. By lap 5, he had also overtaken Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, who had run wide. With two laps to go, he went on and pipped Enea Bastianini. Rins put a lot of pressure on Francesco Bagnaia on the last laps but came just 0.073s short. He held twelfth place across the finish line, 14.648s from first.
Quartararo started from P17 and, after initially losing some ground, recovered to hold the same position again at the end of a busy opening lap. He was riding behind Razgatlıoğlu when on lap 5 a technical issue ended his race prematurely.
After today's Sprint, Quartararo now sits in 15th place in the championship standings with 55 points, while Rins remains 20th with 21 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP are in 10th position in the team classification with 76 points, and Yamaha is 5th in the constructor rankings with 73 points.
Tomorrow, the teammates will be back in action for Warm Up, held from 09:40-09:50 (GMT+2), and the 23-lap Race, which starts at 14:00.
MASSIMO MEREGALLI Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team Director
"Today's Sprint brought both positives and disappointment for our team. Álex did a solid race, riding from P19 to P12, making up positions throughout the Sprint and showing good determination in front of his home fans. He was able to stay in the fight until the very end and finished just behind Bagnaia. Unfortunately, Fabio's Sprint came to an early end due to a technical issue. It's a pity because Fabio was on a mission to collect valuable data today."

"Today, I actually had a big headache, but the Sprint went better than I expected: it was quite interesting and fun. As soon as I got some heat into the medium tyres, I was able to overtake and go forwards. I had some overtakes with Toprak [Razgatlıoğlu], [Enea] Bastianini, and Pecco [Bagnaia]. We are trying very hard. Let's see what we can do tomorrow."
FABIO QUARTARARO Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Rider
"From the start, I was already experiencing some early warning signs, so I knew something was wrong. This weekend I'm more in the role of a 'test rider', let's say. We have a lot of things to test during this weekend, so going from one chassis to another made things a bit confusing for me as well. But we will continue to try to find more performance."
