Challenging Silverstone Sunday Yields P12 for Quartararo

The Grand Prix of Great Britain MotoGP Race was a tale of two halves for Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP. The 20-lap contest was a long and demanding challenge for Fabio Quartararo. A brilliant start and solid race craft earned him P12* at the chequered flag. Álex Rins suffered an unlucky crash on the opening lap, bringing his challenge to a halt.

Today's Grand Prix of Great Britain MotoGP Race was a real test of tyre management for Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo. He finished the 20-lap contest in P12*. Álex Rins was unlucky to get involved in a first lap incident that ended in an NC result.

Quartararo started from P13 and climbed up to P10 early on. He was overtaken by Brad Binder on lap 5, but he kept his head down. With Ai Ogura crashing out on lap 9, the Frenchman returned to P10. In the second half of the race, he was involved in a closely contested midfield battle with Luca Marini and Diogo Moreira. He eventually took the chequered flag in P12*, 26.883s behind the winner.

Commencing from P17, Rins had settled into that same position when on the opening lap an incident with Joan Mir in Turn 7 resulted in a crash. The number-42 rider tried to rejoin the race, but he ultimately had to retire to the pits.

After today's Race, Quartararo remains in 14th place in the championship standings with 59 points*, while Rins is now in 20th with 21 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP are in 10th position in the team classification with 80 points*, and Yamaha is 5th in the constructor rankings with 73 points.

The team will now enjoy a two-week break before returning to action at MotorLand Aragón for the Grand Prix of Aragon, taking place from 28-30 August.

"Today's Race brought mixed results, for obvious reasons. Fabio is often strong at the start, and that was the case again today. He quickly moved into the top 10, which allowed him to remain part of a highly competitive midfield group throughout the race. In the end, P12 was the maximum result we could achieve under the circumstances. Álex was unfortunately caught up in an incident on the opening lap. This was a disappointing way for his GP weekend to end, but the main thing is that he was not injured. He is now focused on bouncing back at MotorLand Aragón in three weeks' time, a circuit that is often considered a second home Grand Prix for him."

"I expected a tough race. I was not able to push like I wanted to. The tyre consumption was big again, but in a different way than it was yesterday. It was not sudden and surprising, today it was gradual and step by step. But it was still not great for us."

"It's a shame to end the weekend like this, with a crash. I couldn't avoid Joan [Mir] and went straight away to the floor. Let's recover and come back stronger for the next race in Aragon in three weeks' time. We'll keep going!"

*UPDATE:

Fabio Quartararo was handed a 16-second penalty after an administrative issue with the front tyre-pressure sensor prevented the collection of the mandatory tyre-pressure data during the race. It dropped him to 16th place in the amended Race results.

Quartararo remains in 14th place in the championship standings with 55 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP are in 10th position in the team classification with 76 points, and Yamaha remain 5th in the constructor rankings with 73 points.
