Weather Conditions on Australian GP Sunday Bring Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Weekend to an Early Close
Due to poor visibility conditions affecting the medical helicopter, meaning medical evacuation and transport to a hospital could not be guaranteed if required and resulting in multiple delays to the Grand Prix of Australia Sunday race schedule, it was ultimately decided to cancel all racing activities. Before the event was officially brought to a close, MotoGP riders completed a lap behind the Safety Car and thanked the fans from the start-finish straight as the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit hosted its final Australian GP.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins were eager to entertain the Australian fans in today's final race at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. Unfortunately, persistent rain throughout the day continued to cause visibility issues, resulting in significant delays to the schedule.

Despite the resolve to wait for improved conditions, poor visibility affecting the medical helicopter remained a concern. With medical evacuation and transport to a hospital unable to be guaranteed if required, it was ultimately decided that racing could not proceed safely.

As conditions failed to improve sufficiently, Race Direction cancelled all remaining track action, including the MotoGP Race, following the earlier cancellation of the Moto3 and Moto2 races.

Though disappointed not to be able to race today, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team and its riders agreed that safety must remain the priority under such circumstances.

Before the event was officially brought to a close, the MotoGP riders completed a lap behind the Safety Car and later assembled on the start-finish straight to greet and thank the fans who had braved the bad weather. The moment also marked a farewell to the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, which hosted its final Australian Grand Prix this weekend.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP will now look ahead to the next round of the championship, the Grand Prix of Malaysia, held at the Sepang International Circuit from 30 October to 1 November.

"Of course, we are very disappointed for the fans who came to the circuit today, especially after waiting through several delays in difficult weather conditions. However, safety must always come first, and under the circumstances, we fully support the decision to cancel the remaining races. Unfortunately, the visibility conditions meant that medical evacuation and transport to a hospital could not be guaranteed if required, making it impossible to proceed safely. It was nice that the riders were still able to greet and thank the fans before the event concluded, especially as this was Phillip Island's final Australian Grand Prix. This was obviously not how we wanted to say goodbye to this iconic circuit, but it is what it is. We now turn our attention to Sepang and hope for a much smoother weekend in Malaysia."

"It's a real shame that we couldn't race today at Phillip Island. I was really looking forward to this GP because it was the last one at this track, and it would have been nice to end this chapter racing in front of the fans. I'm especially sorry for all the fans who came to the circuit and waited through the delays hoping to see us race. It was nice that we still had the chance to greet them and thank them for their support. I have great memories of Phillip Island over the years, so it was important to say goodbye, even if it's not how we would have wanted to do it. Now we focus on Sepang and getting ready for the next race."

"I am so sad that we didn't get to race today – the last roar of the Island. It's really a shame. We had really wonderful moments here, really beautiful days, especially on Friday. At least yesterday we were able to do the Sprint race in dry conditions. It's a big, big shame to finish like this, but I'm really grateful for all the moments that this track has given to me: many victories in Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP.

"Thank you for the fans for all their support. To stand in the grandstands cheering for us in this really bad weather, with the rain and in the cold, it's not something we take for granted."
